A Floating Home: A Safe Nest for Our Ducks
Life at Molaho teaches us that sometimes the best solutions float right to the surface. When our free-ranging ducks started losing their precious eggs to nature’s hungry residents, creativity and innovation came to the rescue.
While our chickens enjoyed their secure coop on land, our ducks needed something special – something that matched their love for water. The solution? A charming floating nest that would keep their eggs safe while letting them stay close to their beloved pond.
The project came to life (thanks to our amazing Engineer) as a delightful fusion of form and function: a boat-like structure with a protective roof, designed to bob gently on our pond’s surface. Built with waterproof materials, the floating duck-boat included a cozy nesting space that stayed dry and secure, perfectly positioned away from land-based predators.
The engineer made the construction process swift and efficient, with even little Mia lending a helping hand. Watching the structure take shape was like seeing a small floating house emerge – complete with the comforts a nesting duck could desire.
Nature has a way of showing appreciation for thoughtful solutions. Shortly after launching our floating nest, our mama duck made herself at home, laying four perfect eggs in the cozy structure. There’s something magical about seeing our ducks contentedly nesting in the middle of the pond, their precious eggs finally safe from sneaky visitors.
This floating nest has become another example of how Molaho continues to grow and adapt, finding creative ways to work with nature rather than against it. It’s more than just a solution to a problem – it’s become another charming feature of our pond. A committment to innovative thinking and careful craftsmanship.
